Sometimes during the day, the backstreets of Bairro Alto can be charming and quiet. Sometimes you can enjoy getting lost and finding new places. And sometimes - typically in the middle of July - they’re home to stag dos drinking €5 Aperol Spritz. Antonia Petiscos sits in the southeast corner of Bairro Alto - close to Baixa-Chiado metro - and offers a cosy, chic and shady place to rest up from the cocktails and try some great Portuguese classics. We ordered their Bacalhau à Brás (shredded cod with potato and scrambled egg) and shrimp spaghetti and were impressed with the flavour (the shrimp spaghetti was particularly tasty), the quality of the produce, and the great service. It is not necessarily more expensive than elsewhere in the city - we had two delicious mains, coffees and a couple of waters for €15 per head - but the portion sizes were more London-like (we still both left full). It is a small restaurant, so consider calling ahead for a table - or I’m sure you can put your name down and then head up the street for an Aperol Spritz while you wait.
Don’t forget to order: Shrimp spaghetti - it was tomato-y, and garlic-y, and prawn-y.

This dish was much bigger than it appears in this photo and full of prawns - very good.
