One of the finest cultural excursions in all of Lisbon is a trip to the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. Consisting of a historical artefacts museum and a very soon to reopen, refurbished modern art museum, the site is one the most beautiful locations to soak up sunshine and learn. A further extra highlight are the free music weekends it hosts every June/July, showcasing excellent Portuguese acts within its gloriously landscaped gardens. And what's more, it's completely free to attend.
So vibing from a couple of hours of Afrobeats and vinho branco in the stonking Lisbon summer heat, we wobbled over the road to try and regain the rest of our evening, what with it only being 7pm. Our destination being Ground Burger, with its elevated view across the refurbished modern art museum and strong reputation cemented from its stall in the Time Out Market.

Living in London in the early 'tens' of this century, then it was impossible to to not be swept along with vive la craft beer révolution. After an impetuous youth of weak, fizzy, mass-market lagers, the only way to demonstrate aloof coolness was to know your IPA from your APA. From Harlem to Hackney, hipsters the world over wore knowing the wheats from the hops with pride. Although age and tastes has seen us indulge in grapes over grains in recent years, it was impossible to not be excited by Ground Burger's incredible menu of global crafties. Although, prewarning, the beer does not come cheap!
With a couple of delightful ales in tow, it was time to deliberate over the protein. The Portuguese really pride themselves on their hambúrguer, and Ground Burger set themselves apart by making a pitch between what the locals and the tourists might expect.
Using top quality Black Angus beef, their patties return succulent and beefy, with their brioche buns just the right amount of sweetness to cut through the fat of the meat and cheese.
With a signature Ground Burger and the decadent Philly Burger (named from the huge dollop of creme cheese, not where It's Always Sunny) we feasted on two hearty beasts. Perfectly grilled, and not overloaded with toppings to take away from the quality of the ground meat. These are the burgers you want in your life.

Supported by a shared side of french fries, gently fragranced with garlic and rosemary and crispier than Snap, Crackle and Pop's cereal, we obtained a level of satisfaction, the likes of which fast food makes you think has happened, but really has not.
We recommend you go do two of the best things possible in a place as hot as Lisbon in the summer. Enjoy the air conditioning and education in the middle of the day of a museum, then go cool off further with a truly great beer and burger combination. This is the good life.

Drinks: A California IPA on draught and a bottle of Portuguese APA
Don’t forget to order: When a dish takes the name of a restaurant, the matrimony is secure. The Ground Burger.
