Anyone who has had the joy of learning the German language has enjoyed the wonderful experience of literal translation and humour that comes from applying the vocabulary in an English context. For the older generations amongst us (see Millennial or older) the American Pie movie franchise introduced us all to the idiotic happenings of Steve Stiffler, the high school bully/douchebag, who self-proclaimed himself the Stiffmeister! Well, what passes for comedy in the Anglosphere, is simple community administration in Alemania. All hail the Bürgermeister!

Looking for a warm and filling lunch, we made our way into the Saldanha branch of Honorato. Withe branches all across Lisbon, and also in Coimbra and Porto, these guys really are the burger maestros of Portugal and after our visit it is clear why. With a wonderful, but not overbearing selection of burgers to choose from, and the simple choice of regular or sweet potato fries on the side, it is clear that Honorato has confidence in doing more with less.

Both the Hot Mex and Falcão chunky beef patties came loaded into a sweet but structually sound brioche bun, with a slice of cheddar wilting at the the exact melting point to add a creamy, cheddary blast over the juicy meat, and supplemented with salads. The guacamole in the Hot Mex adding another luscious creamy texture to each bite.

In a competitive field in Portugal, there's a lot of great burgers and cheap burgers to choose from, so standing out to be as good as this place is a real, errrr, honour? Seriously though, the restaurants are decked out so comfortably, with vibes good enough to match the burgers. Vote with your feet and go eat at the burgermeisters.
