Mezze - pão a pão

One night in early summer we found ourselves walking in circles trying to pick a restaurant around Mercado de Arroios. 20 minutes later we were tucking into plates of freshly fried falafel and a baba ganoush that was so smokey and flavoursome I kept squealing. Choose one or two of the set menu mezzes (€14-17.50 for 4 or 5 small plates) to start - you can always order more. We then shared an incredible cardamom chocolate mousse. It was rich, it was thick, it was a bit spicy from the cardamom, it was just brilliant. At €43 for great food, dessert, coffee and wine for two, Mezze was already our new favourite restaurant in Lisbon. Then we discovered that the restaurant creates jobs for refugees and has won accolades for their social integration work as well as their delicious food. We will absolutely be back soon.

Don’t forget to order: Obviously one of the mezze menus - but you would be silly to not also order the chocolate mousse (€4).

This chocolate mousse now frequently appears in my dreams.
