The neighbourhood between Alameda, Areeiro, Roma and Campo Pequeno metro stations, is continually turning up some of the better restaurants that we eat at. After discovering a first class roof top terrace and outstanding regional Chinese, we now get to add to the list of reasons to come to this neighbourhood, Oshiki by Solar 31 for some seriously tasty sushi.
It is worth saying that Lisbon is not without plenty of options across the city for great sushi, but we were left dumbfounded by some of the excellent twists that Oshiki served up to us on our 20 piece sharing platter.

The first is the salmon, avocado and roe roll (above left), but with an outstanding texture contrast from a hidden crunchy layer within the roll. A truly flavoursome and interesting bite. Secondly came the delicately sliced salmon sashimi, enveloping a dollop of fresh ground peanut sauce. The sheer luxury of the serving size brings to mind many a 4am spoon and peanut butter raids as specialised by drunk college students.

The whole platter of sushi delivered supremely fresh fish, with a litany of textures and flavours. An absolutely ideal sharing plate for two, demonstrating not just the skill of the chefs, but also the dedication to stocking the best produce. Supplemented by a pork bao each, again the meat elevated with a perfectly sweet and sticky peanut sauce. For such an unassuming restaurant in a quieter part of town, this is really high grade cuisine.
With the craft beer house, Cerveteca opposite, Quiosque Birra on the other side of the road and even Quiosque Avenida de Roma or Victor Horta wine bar all within a few minutes walk, Oshiki is the perfect location to refuel after some fine drinks with friends.

Drinks: Two glasses of Alentejo white wine, two coffees and a sparkling water.
Don’t forget to order: The crunchy delights with salmon and avocado.
