Outro Tempo Bar

The tradition at the heart of Estrela

Outro Tempo Bar

The well-reviewed entrecôte- saucy meat.

This is not a blog about the gardens of Lisbon. And that is probably for the best, because otherwise every other review would be about how joyous Jardim da Estrela is. It is so joyous, that it is quite easy to get carried away drinking little glasses of white wine with just plates of tremoços beans to soak them up. Which is how we found ourselves in Jardim da Estrela in need of big plates of comfort food around 8pm on a recent Friday night. A quick Google of nearby tascas - and reviews singing the praises of the entrecôte - brought us to the door of Outro Tempo Bar, a two minute stroll from the garden. The reviews were spot on: the steak was tender and the sauce was creamy. What the reviews didn’t mention as much was the prawn curry, which was arguably the top dish. Lots (and lots) of juicy prawns in a not-very-challenging-spicy sauce on a bed of rice. With a hot couvert of meat croquettes, a bottle of Alentejo white wine and two coffees, the bill came to an entirely reasonable €52. The restaurant started filling up from 8.30pm onwards, but you should be fine walking in before then.

Don’t forget to order: The prawn curry. Delicious.
